I had no idea where to start...so I started by enrolling in this class! I think that previously, before I took the multicultural education class, I thought that if a book had an African American child on the cover than it was multicultural.
I have discovered that I was very wrong! I am very excited about this process and already have two of my students busy making an inventory of my books as I sift out the outdated ones.
Wow! That is the question...where to start? I signed up for this class after taking one of the most intriguing classes...Multicultural Education. It opened my eyes to really how broad and global the definition of "multicultural" really is. In setting up any kind of a library it takes time. Now that I am more learned about multiculturalism, I have more to consider in reorganizing and restructuring my library. My students are definitely helping me with this process and are taking inventory of what we have so that we know where to go. My mentee has more of a clean slate as she does not have many books. She is so excited, as am I, to develop a more meaningful, thoughtful, and relevant library. This will be well worth it and I am anticipating a fantastic result!
